International fact finding visit 11 November 2005

Sampling the delights of the Island, in between the sunshine and showers, last weekend were three overseas visitors from VisitBritain.

VisitBritain Press OfficersThe three press officers, Nathalie Kouzi from Greece, Claire Mason from South Africa and Racquel Chung representing Hong Kong, had been attending a VisitBritain Conference in London. After the conference they had the opportunity to visit a number of places in Britain and the Channel Islands and all three independently opted to visit the Isle of Man.

Nathalie said she could not get over how green and varied the landscape was, Racquel commented that everyone was so friendly, and Claire said the views across Niarbyl bay were magical.

Minister for Tourism and Leisure David Cretney also met them during their visit. He said:

‘I am delighted that they made the Island their first choice and hope this will lead to additional business from their respective countries in the future.’

Despite the rain on Saturday, the trio visited a number of attractions and Manx National Heritage sites, including the Manx Museum, Castle Rushen and the House of Manannan. They were very impressed with the Island’s heritage, especially Laxey Wheel and the Celtic Crosses in Old Kirk Braddan Church.

Derek Mulhern, Marketing Development Manager, said:

‘The representatives have vowed to return to the Island but, most importantly, their brief visit has enabled them to go back to their countries and inform prospective visitors of what the Island has to offer.’
