Festive Shopping Evenings with Manx National Heritage 10 November 2005

Manx National Heritage is continuing the tradition of opening the Manx Museum and House of Manannan for festive shopping evenings in November and December, with mulled wine and mince pies and local musicians providing superb Christmas entertainment.

Many unique Manx themed gifts are on offer, such as the National Art Calendar, which includes twelve of the best landscape and seascape pictures from the Manx National Collection. The Calendar features paintings by some of the most admired and well known Manx artists such as Archibald Knox, the Nicholsons and Norman Sayle. To complement the calendar there are also Christmas cards featuring traditional Manx images of Christmas.

The festive evenings at the Manx Museum will be held on Friday the 18th November, where musical entertainment will be provided by a flute ensemble of the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra, on Friday 9th December, with entertainment from the Caarjyn Cooidjagh choir and on Friday the 16th December prior to the ‘Giense y Nollick – A Manx Christmas Celebration’ in the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre, which starts at 7.30pm.

The Heritage Shop will remain open until 7.30pm during each shopping evening and the events will coincide with a number of informative lectures which run throughout the winter season at the Manx Museum. Refreshments will be available at all shopping nights and a small charge will be made for these, with proceeds going to the Friends of Manx National Heritage.

The festive evening at the House of Manannan will be held on Friday the 2nd December, with doors open from 5.30pm to 8.00 pm and free admission to the House of Manannan Heritage Shop. Music will be provided by the choir ‘Sheeanyn Millish’ which is Manx for sweet sounds!

Maureen Kennaugh, Retail Manager for Manx National Heritage said:

“There was a fun and festive atmosphere at all of last year’s shopping nights and we look forward to this year’s line up of Christmas entertainment, which has always been a great success!”

The Manx Museum and House of Manannan are part of the award-winning ‘Story of Mann’ and are open throughout the winter season excluding Christmas Day, Boxing and New Year’s Days. The Manx Museum is open Monday to Saturday 10pm to 5pm and is closed on Sundays. The House of Manannan is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm.
