'A Night On the Tiles' - Lecture at the Manx Museum, 28th October 27 October 2005

Manx National Heritage and the Isle of Man Victorian Society will host 'A Night on the Tiles', their annual joint lecture for 2005 at the Manx Museum on Friday 28th October 2005 at 7.30pm.

'A Night on the Tiles' will feature a presentation on Architectural Ceramics in and around the Isle of Man by leading ceramics authority Dr Lynn Pearson, Industrial Architectural Historian and specialist in architectural ceramics.

Dr Pearson has previously visited the Island and spent a long weekend, with the expert advice of local architectural historian Peter Kelly, going round the Island and photographing numerous wall and floor tiles in churches, houses and shops. Many of these will be featured in her illustrated talk, when she will also examine the background of the 19th century revival in British tile manufacture and relate this to the Manx examples produced by the industry.

Fiona McArdle, Education Officer for Manx National Heritage, said:

“Manx National Heritage and the Isle of Man Victorian Society are delighted to welcome Dr Pearson to talk about her work on the Island at the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre. Dr Pearson’s talk promises to provide a fascinating insight into architectural ceramics around the Island, together with some hints about where to see outstanding examples of ceramic tiles in Britain and abroad”.

As well as her expertise in architectural ceramics, Dr Pearson is an expert on the seaside and buildings in the brewing industry and has written a number of Shire publications on subjects such as amusement machines, piers, lighthouses and mausoleums. Her publication on lighthouses features a couple of photographs of Manx lighthouses.

The presentation will be held in the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre at 7.30pm on Friday 28th October 2005. Doors open at 7pm and admission is free of charge.
