Isle of Man hosting Irish Bank Holiday Weekend October 28-31 12 September 2005

One of the highlights of autumn on the Isle of Man will be the traditional Irish Bank Holiday weekend over the weekend October 28-31.

A host of Irish entertainers are booked to appear over three nights at the Villa Marina in Douglas including Finbar Furey, Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners and Liam Clancy. The line-up also includes The Furey Brothers, Davy Arthur and Patsy Watchorn.

    Tourism Minister David Cretney said:

‘This year we have more entertainers than ever before and we’re hoping to welcome visitors from the UK as well as Ireland. The Isle of Man offers a range of activities throughout the year but providing an Irish folk spectacular means weekenders won’t be short of things to see. All the Island’s heritage attractions are open to the end of October and the steam railway will still be operating. As always, Island shopkeepers, pubs and restaurants will be looking forward to the event and I can promise all visitors a fun-packed weekend.
‘Marketing of this event will extend to the Irish community in the UK, particularly in the North West who have the choice of travelling to the Isle of Man by sea or air. Visitors from Ireland – both north and south – have a range of air packages available. Perhaps local residents may also invite their Irish relations over.’

Late night dancing will be provided on both the Friday and Saturday nights by the fantastic Marty Fay and his Banditos, and keeping the show running smoothly will be the M.C. for the weekend Sil Fox.

The shows will be staged in the fully seated Royal Hall, which is serviced by four bars, each with their own special character. This beautifully restored auditorium combines Edwardian grandeur and comfort with the latest sound and light system to create a unique atmosphere.

Three night specials are available from £175 by sea, while flight packages start from £189 for two nights. Packages are being sold through Magic Holidays on 0845 758 5833, Premier Holidays on 0870 889 0838, and Travel Services on 01624 66 11 77.
