Investors in People Autumn Conference 17th November 2005 19 August 2005

The Department of Trade & Industry has announced that Ruth Spellman, Chief Executive of Investors in People UK will be the keynote speaker at the Autumn Investors in People Conference. The Department is responsible for delivering the Investors in People programme in the Isle of Man and the Conference is an opportunity for organisations who have achieved the Investors in People Standard and those interested in working towards it to meet each other, learn about latest developments and explore ideas.

Minister for the Department, Alex Downie MLC said “The fact that we have been able to attract a speaker of the quality of Ruth Spellman speaks volumes for the success of the Island in promoting and implementing the IIP standard.” Ms Spellman has been Chief Executive of IIPUK for seven years and has spent a distinguished career in human resource and change management, holding senior posts in such organisations as the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and Coopers and Lybrand.

The Minister continued “Research has shown that businesses do much better when they achieve the Investors in People Standard. Sound personnel management practices in recruitment, training and supporting staff in their work demonstrate to them that they and their contribution to the organisation are valued. This has a direct effect on organisational success and profit. A 2004 study* found that small and medium enterprises stand to gain the most profit per employee.”

A further five organisations have been successful in gaining the Standard this year and four have passed reassessments. The growth in accreditation shows that businesses are recognising that achieving the Standard is a key factor for success and maintaining a competitive edge.

In addition to the Standard and the Profile Framework, which is considered to be the ‘gold standard’, there are three Investors in People management models comprising Leadership and Management, Recruitment and Selection and Work Life Balance. This year’s Conference, which will be held on 17th November, will include workshop discussions on the Investors in People Standard and management models, championing Investors in People and the Profile Framework.

Further information about the Conference can be obtained from the:

Department’s Programme Manager, Kathryn Butler on 682383 or Elaine Wood on 687175.
