Poetry in the Park 11 August 2005

The Isle of Man Poetry Society is giving readings in the Curraghs Wildlife Park as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of this popular visitor attraction.

On Sunday 14 August members of the Isle of Man Poetry Society, including Vinty Kneale, a well known local poet, will be present in the Wildlife Park. Members will be reading poems, either their own work or work published elsewhere, as visitors walk around the Park to see the animals.

General Manager Nick Pinder commented: 'During this anniversary year we wanted to put on events that were a little different and which might attract people to visit the Park for reasons other than seeing the animals. Luckily Vinty and I shared a vision that it would be great fun for visitors to the Wildlife Park to walk round a corner and come across someone reading poetry. They might stop and listen, they may move on, but they will have had the opportunity of what will possibly be a new experience. We hope people will respond to this venture and we're very grateful that the members of the Isle of Man Poetry Society are happy to give it a go.'

Members of the public are also invited to join in an can submit their poems to the Wildlife Park either before or on the day.
