Internet Sales - the latest information from the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading 8 August 2005

Are you concerned about protecting your payments and your personal information when buying goods over the internet? More and more people are buying this way but how do you make sure that the sites you buy from are secure? New information is available on buying over the internet from the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading in the form of a new leaflet.

The new leaflet will be officially launched at the Royal Manx Agricultural Show in Sulby on Friday 12th August. It contains the latest advice to support consumers.

Quintin Gill MHK, Chairman of the Office, is aware that buying goods this way is on the increase. "Consumers find shopping on the internet allows them a wide range of choice on products but there are drawbacks. It's often difficult to know who exactly you are buying from and what safeguards are in place to protect you when using these sites. This new leaflet will give consumers the information they need to ensure that they are not taken for a ride."

Copies of the leaflet are available from the Office in Lord Street, Douglas (telephone 686500) or from the Office's marquee at the Royal Show where Consumer Advisers will be available to provide consumers with advice on this and other consumer issues.
