Board of Education Bye Election 28 July 2005

Due to the Board Member for Michael's resignation earlier this year there will be a bye election for this constituency on Thursday 8th September 2005.

Nominations for this will close on Monday 8th August and anyone interested in becoming a member for the Board of Education should contact the Department prior to nomination day for details of the workings and commitments of this Board.

The Board of Education consists of 15 non-Tynwald members elected in accordance with the representation of the people act 1951, one member being elected to represent each of the 15 House of Keys constituencies. Normally each Board member serves a term of 5 years.

The work undertaken by Board members is both interesting and varied and, given its role as advisory body on all aspects of education, people from all walks of life are encouraged to stand for election.

The constituency of Michael encompasses the areas of Michael, Ballaugh and Jurby with each of these primary schools playing a major part in the work of this Board member along with Ramsey Grammar School and QEII High School.

The returning officer for this bye election will be Mr Mark Moroney.
