Recruitment for Director of Civil Aviation Begins 15 July 2005

Trade & Industry Minister, Hon Alex Downie, MLC, today announced that the recruitment process for a Director Civil Aviation, on the staff of the DTI, has commenced.

In conjunction with the Civil Service Commission, the Department has appointed Odgers Ray & Berndtson, specialist search and select consultants with extensive experience in the civil aviation sector, to lead the recruitment for this important post.

In making the announcement, Hon. Alex Downie said:

“The establishment of a civil aircraft register on the Island is an exciting prospect with great potential. It is a key element in Government’s economic diversification strategy and will complement existing capabilities in the finance, professional services and shipping sectors.

We already have agreement in principle with the UK Government for an aircraft register on the Island and our next step in bringing this to fruition is to appoint an individual with the necessary specialist skills and experience to successfully complete detailed negotiations and then to set up and launch a register.

I am very optimistic that an aircraft register on the Island will be a success and I look forward to welcoming the new post holder to the Department in the not too distant future.”
