Winners of the Film Animation Competition 6 July 2005

Balley Beg studios have announced the winners in their competition to create a “helpful truck” who will appear in a future episode of their series of 'Finley the Fire Engine'.

    They are:
1st prize - Tilley the Tractor - Patrick Couper-Woods of Sulby School
    Runners-up:
Rodney the Recycle Van - Jasmine Ali of Braddan and Mikey the Milk Van - Johnathan Gordan of St Mary's.

This competition was organised by Balley Beg studios in association with the Department of Trade and Industry as part of the continuing development of the Island’s film and media industry.

A major pre-school animation series titled 'Finley the Fire Engine' is currently being created at Balley Beg animation studios in Douglas. In total there will be 78 episodes of this 3D computer animated television series which will then be broadcast throughout the world. Part of the 1st prize won by Patrick is to see his character feature in one of the episodes of 'Finlay the Fire Engine'.

The studio has employed world-class staff, mainly from Los Angeles. These staff have been visiting schools on the Island explaining the animation process to pupils many of whom are already using their school computers to create their own short animation films. Older students have also benefited from encouraging career advice given by the team.
