Public Invited to Presentation on Climate Change 7 December 2005

The Department of Local Government and the Environment (the Environment Department) has arranged a presentation on Climate Awareness at the Manx Museum in Douglas at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 14th December, 2005. This presentation will be open to all members of the public and all interested parties are being encouraged to attend.

The Environment Department has commissioned a study project to assess the impact of climate change for the Island and to look at how we need to start adapting to changes in our climate. Acclimatise, a climate risk management consultancy engaged to carry out the study, will be giving the presentation and available to answer any questions on this important subject.

Martin Hall, the Department’s Director of Environment, Safety and Health, said,

“People tend to think that climate change is something in the future that will not impact on them but this presentation will cause them to think again because the effects of climate change are already in evidence and affecting us now.”

Environment Minister, John Rimington MHK, comments,

“It is essential that all sectors and activities on the Island are considered as it is inevitable that climate change will impact on all aspects of our lives. It is essential, therefore, that people become involved at any early stage and gain a better understanding of the key issues so that planning can be more effective”.
