New Head teacher at Victoria Road Primary School 17 January 2006

    Simon Jones has been appointed as the new Head teacher at Victoria Road Primary School with effect from the beginning of this Spring term. Simon, who is 47 years old, began his working life as a Lincolnshire ambulanceman. His teaching career also started in Lincolnshire, after training in the Lake District, and he has taught every age from four to sixteen, in various types and sizes of school, mostly in Lincolnshire but also in the large Liverpool primary school he attended as a child. Prior to his move to the island he was Headteacher of Gipsey Bridge Primary School, Lincolnshire for fifteen years. Simon Jones

    Simon is married with two grown up children and in his free time enjoys squash, marathon running, independent travel, theatre and reading. He is currently learning to play the piano.

    Says Simon about his first thoughts on the Isle of Man - "This is a marvelous place to live and work. The children, colleagues, parents, and local people have all made me very welcome."

    When asked about his aims and aspirations for the school Simon replied that he would aim to provide the best possible education for all the children, with an emphasis on English and Maths, but with a broad, enjoyable and rich curriculum that includes school visits, visitors and clubs.

    Bill Denard retired as Head teacher of Victoria Road in July 2005 and Howard Green was appointed as Acting Head teacher from September to December 2005. Howard had previously been Head teacher of Michael Primary School and is currently the Department's school improvement advisor for numeracy (Primary).
