New Tourism Awards Launch 24 January 2006

    Martyn Quayle MHK, Hon David Cretney MHK, Mrs Pam Crowe MLC

    Minister for Tourism David Cretney MHK is pleased to announce the launch of a new Tourism Awards scheme for 2006. Visitors and residents can nominate a tourism business, organisation or individual for a special award by telling the Tourism Department about their experience of outstanding quality or service.

    There are seven award categories. They are best hotel of the year, small hotel/B&B, self-catering, tourism attraction, restaurant, special event and best customer service from an individual. Nominations can be made online at or by completing nomination cards that will be available from the Island’s tourism businesses and the Sea Terminal Tourist Information Centre.

    Tourism Minister David Cretney said:

    ‘The launch of the Tourism Awards is tied in closely with my strategic objective of driving up quality and service within the tourism and hospitality sectors. The awards reinforce the work of the Manx Welcome programme which has already seen over 800 individuals participating in a range of customer service courses.’

    Members of the taxi trade Nominations close on 30 September with the judging taking place shortly after that.
