Maritime Fun and Games this Half Term at the House of Manannan 7 February 2006

Between Saturday 18th February and Sunday 26th February Manx National Heritage will be holding the first in a series of children’s school holiday quizzes for 2006 at the House of Manannan. Exclusively during the February half-term holiday, children visiting the House of Manannan can enjoy hunting for clues to our Maritime quiz. Andrew Gerrard

In line with the fascinating Maritime history portrayed at the House of Manannan, puzzles for both younger and older children will be based on themes including the Irish sea, fishing, sailing and of course, the mythical sea-god Manannan. All children willing to join in and test out their nautical knowledge will receive a mystery prize from the House of Manannan lucky dip!

A grand prize with a nautical theme is also on offer for all children who take part. Participants will be entered into a prize draw, which will take place on Monday 27th February. So come along and have a whale of a time!

Nick Corkill, Western Area Site Manager, said:

“The half-term quiz is the first in a series of school holiday quizzes which will run at the House of Manannan this year, so keep a look out for similar activities planned for Easter, TT Week and the Summer holiday.

During each visit, answers to the quiz can be found in galleries throughout the House of Manannan so children will be kept entertained searching for clues from beginning to end”.

Situated by Peel harbour, the House of Manannan provides an absorbing day out for all of the family. Through state of the art display techniques the Island’s Celtic, Viking and Maritime past is revealed by Manannan, mythological sea-god and protector of the Island.

The House of Manannan is part of the award winning Story of Mann and is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm. Normal admission prices apply. Last recommended admission at 3.30pm.
