Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry welcomes the new General Manager at the Meat Plant 7 April 2006

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Hon Phil Gawne MHK, has welcomed Phil Teare to his new role as the General Manager of the Isle of Man Fatstock Marketing Association Meat Plant at Tromode.

The Minister commented, “I am delighted that Mr Teare has accepted this challenging role. The Department has worked closely with him in the past and I am confident that he will rise to the very real challenges which are facing the red meat sector on the Island.”

“Mr Teare accompanied members of the 2010 Committee on their recent study trip to the Orkney Islands,” said Mr Gawne. “He demonstrated his enthusiasm and passion for marketing red meat. My Department has been impressed in the past with Mr Teare’s focus on meeting the needs of his customers and I’m sure this will help in his new role.”

The Minister added, “The end of the red meat derogation in 2010 means that Mr Teare is likely to be responsible for the Meat Plant during one of the biggest changes in our market for the last 70 years. I am confident that his background, having been in the FMA for several years, and, prior to that, working in other areas of the food chain, will stand him in good stead.”

“Over the last few months,” said Mr Gawne, “I have been very reassured by the strategic approach that the FMA Executive Committee has adopted in focusing on the way forwards, and also the level of engagement they have had with the Department. I am confident that, by continuing to work as a team, we will deliver a sustainable way forwards for the industry.”
