Stars pay tribute to their time on the Island 19 April 2006

Whilst the cast and crew of Miss Potter leave the Island to start their shoot in the Lake District, cast members Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor have paid tribute to their time on the Island.

Oscar winner Renée Zellweger said ‘It's been great looking across at the ocean and I've gone for daily runs on the beach whenever the weather allowed’. Renée also visited several local stores and was seldom recognised.

Ewan McGregor added ‘I've had a great time here. I've visited the bike museum - and I've actually bought an old bike to add to my collection. I wasn't able to ride while on the Isle of Man because I'm not allowed to when I'm working. The only country where I have been allowed to work and ride a bike was Australia when I was making 'Moulin Rouge'. It was my first visit to the Isle of Man and I thoroughly enjoyed it’.

Miss Potter publicist Susan d’Arcy remarked ‘Ewan and the other actors - including Bill Paterson and Barbara Flynn have made extensive tours of the island and eaten in hotels and restaurants from Peel to Port Erin, from Ramsey to the Calf of Man. They particularly enjoyed the Isle of Man museum in Douglas which most have visited more than once.’

Miss Potter is the much talked about story of Beatrix Potter, the author of children’s classics such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Tale of Miss Tiggy-Winkle. The film will mix live action with high-end animated sequences and is directed by Chris Noonan, his first feature film since he directed the Oscar-winning Babe.

It is anticipated to be one of Britain’s biggest independent films of 2006.

Meanwhile, Sparkle has also left the Island to shoot in Liverpool. Starring Bob Hoskins, Stockard Channing and Shaun Evans, Sparkle is a comedy from acclaimed writing and directing team Neil Hunter and Tom Hunsinger and is about an opportunistic young Liverpudlian who comes to London and decides to sleep his way to the top.

Production continues to be busy on the Island with our next film, The Walker due to start filming tomorrow (20th April.) The Walker is produced by Deepak Nayar who has already filmed Mistress of Spices (which is due to be released on 21st April) and The Thread on the Island. It is to be directed by Paul Schrader (‘Taxi Driver’) and stars Woody Harrelson (‘Cheers’, ‘Indecent Proposal’), Island regular Kristin Scott Thomas (‘Keeping Mum’, ‘The English Patient), Lauren Bacall (‘The Big Sleep’, ‘Dogville’), Ned Beatty(‘Deliverance’, ‘Superman’), Moritz Bleibtreu (‘Munich’), Willem Dafoe (‘Spiderman’, ‘Body of Evidence’) and Lily Tomlin (‘The West Wing’, ‘Tea with Mussolini’). The film tells the story of Carter Page, a society walker from Washington who escorts the wives of the rich and powerful to events because their husbands can’t be bothered. When the wife of a liberal senator finds her lover murdered, to save her and her husband political embarrassment, Carter offers to ‘discover’ the body. There are complications when an ambitious district attorney becomes determined to implicate both Carter and the wife in her lover’s death.

DTI Minister Alex Downie said ‘We’re delighted to welcome such Hollywood legends to the Island and hope that they enjoy their time here. The calibre of actors filming on the Island is representative of the quality of our films and we are looking forward to a busy Summer in terms of production’

Filming on The Walker has already taken place in London and cast and crew will be on the Island until 5th May when they will leave to shoot in Washington DC.
