Vicarage Road/Saddle Road Junction Improvements 26 April 2006

The Department of Transport advise that construction work on the new mini roundabout at the junction between Vicarage Road and Saddle Road will commence on Wednesday 26th April 2006 and is scheduled for completion by Friday 25th August 2006.

The completed scheme will form part of the Douglas Outer Link and will improve the safety and visibility for vehicles approaching the junction from all directions. It will also provide a safer crossing point for pedestrians. Currently there are queuing problems during the evening peak times due to vehicles approaching the junction from Vicarage Road having to give way to vehicles travelling along Saddle Road. The new layout aims to reduce the queuing by providing a better balance and increase the flow and capacity of traffic through the junction.

Due to the constraints of the site and the desire to keep traffic disruptions to a minimum, the easterly (Douglas) side of the Saddle Road junction will be closed to through traffic. A temporary 20mph speed limit will be imposed and a set of 2-way traffic signals will be used to control vehicle movements on the junction throughout the construction period. The signals will be manually operated by DoT staff during peak times. Work will be temporarily suspended and the junction will be re-opened to traffic for the busy TT period from Thursday 1st June until Monday 12th June when the junction will be closed again. Work will then continue through to the scheduled completion date of Friday 25th August.

Motorists are reminded that they are legally obliged to adhere to temporary speed limits and traffic signals.
