Wage and Salary Agreements 12 May 2006

During the 2005-2006 financial year, Treasury provided Departments with supplementary funding of £10.2 million to meet the additional cost of pay awards agreed during the year which could not be met within approved budgets.

When annual spending amounts are approved in the Budget, they specifically exclude any allowance for pay increases. Where possible, Departments absorb such additional costs within existing budgets.

The sum of £10.2 million was allocated among the following Departments: -

 Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry    77,500
 Department of Education    1,669,400
 Department of Health & Social Security    7,470,200
 Department of Transport    961,788

and includes the cost of previously announced pay increases for various staff including manual workers, doctors, nurses, teachers and lecturers.

Treasury is required under the Tynwald Resolution of 15 April 1992, to report such approved additional sums to Tynwald Court annually.
