Vandals Destroy Recycling Banks at Nobles Park 6 June 2006 Public recycling banks placed at Nobles Park entrance were destroyed by fire in the early hours of Monday 5th June. The Fire Services extinguished the blaze and Douglas Corporation staff have cleared the site of debris. Furthermore, Police Officers have been carrying out house to house enquiries. The Department of Local Government and the Environments Recycling Officer, Joanne Hetherington says The recycling banks had been placed in Nobles Park as a temporary measure for the TT period, to provide an easily accessible site for the public during the races. It is extremely disappointing that the bins have been destroyed in this way and whoever carried out this vandalism showed absolutely no concern for public safety or the islands environment. On behalf of the Department, I would like to thank the Fire Service, Police and Douglas Corporation for their valuable assistance during this incident. Due to the nature of this incident, the Department has decided, reluctantly, that all recycling facilities be withdrawn from Nobles Park entrance. They will not be reinstated. Any members of the public wishing to recycle their glass, paper or aluminium in the Douglas area are encouraged to use one of the towns permanent recycling sites. Call 686540 or visit www.im-recycling.com for further details. If anyone has any information regarding the fire, they are asked to contact Police Headquarters on 631212.
