St Ninian's Pride in Mann Competition 19 July 2006

St Ninian’s High School pupils in Douglas have recently been invited to enter an Isle of Man travel writing competition ‘Pride in Mann 2006’. The organisers were Head of English at the school, Rachel Withington and English teacher, Esther Hill.

The competition was divided into two age groups, years 7 and 8 (age 11-13) and years 9 and 10 (age 13-15) and judged by Department of Tourism and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK.

Tourism and Leisure Minister David Cretney said:

‘This has been a great opportunity for children to use their imagination and to make their fellow pupils aware of the beauty of their Island and how much there is to see and do here. I would like to thank St Ninian’s school for asking me to judge the competition, it was most difficult to choose the winning entry as the standard of writing was very high.’

Mr Cretney presented a certificate and ‘Spirit of Mann’ book to each first and second prize winner and runners-up were awarded an ‘Island of Contrasts’ DVD at a presentation at the school last week. For anyone wishing to view the competition entries they will be on display at the Sea Terminal during July and August.
