Department of Transport due to start maintenance works on the Red Dub Weir on the River Neb in Patrick 29 August 2006

The Department of Transport Drainage Division will shortly undertake maintenance work on the Red Dub Weir on the River Neb at the Raggatt, in Patrick. The work will consist of constructing a rock ramp weir at the same location of what is left of the current weir, which has almost washed away. The Department will begin clearing the site on 4th September and construction work will start during the following week. This project will involve using heavy wagons along the adjacent footpath, but it will take no longer than six weeks to complete.

The Department will construct the new ramp using locally sourced granite material, employing a new engineering technique for the first time on the Island. Using a natural material will be more aesthetically in tune with the surrounding area and when it has been completed and it will ease the passage for fish migration.

The public footpath close to the site will be used by the project team whilst these works are being carried out and it is very likely that the footpath will closed for a short period. The Department will issue a formal public notice in due course to confirm the duration of any such closure and will endeavour to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.
