Island Welcomes Cruise Ship Saga Rose 4 September 2006

The Saga Rose made an impromptu call to the Island on Tuesday 29th August. She is on a ‘Highlights of the British Isles’ cruise en-route from Portree (Isle of Skye) to Liverpool. The ship, with more than 900 passengers and crew, anchored in Douglas Bay at 14:00 allowing passengers to come ashore by tender for up to five hours. She is the fifth cruise ship to visit in 2006.

Mrs Pamela Crowe MLC, who has delegated responsibility in the Department of Tourism for Product Development, was delighted with the arrival of the ship and the way in which the Department of Tourism & Leisure and the Department of Transport responded to the unscheduled visit. She has since heard how pleased the Saga excursion organisers were with their first visit to the Island. The Saga Rose will be returning to the Island next year.

2007 looks like being a record breaking year with ten cruise ships already due to visit, bringing over 6200 visitors to the Island.

Saga Rose departed at 19:30
