Department of Home Affairs appoints Press Officer 9 October 2006

DAPHNE Caine has been appointed Press and Public Relations Officer at the Department of Home Affairs.

Initially working part-time, Daphne will be asked to develop effective communications for the department, which encompasses the Isle of Man Constabulary, the Island’s Fire and Rescue Service, Isle of Man Probation Service, Isle of Man Prison, the Communications Division and the Emergency Planning Office.

Home Affairs Minister John Shimmin MHK commented:

‘I am delighted to welcome Daphne to my Department. Government has a responsibility to communicate with the public and it’s intended that this appointment will assist us in achieving more effective communication of the department’s achievements.
‘It’s an important time for the DHA with the construction and subsequent commissioning of the new £41.7million prison at Jurby and the recent re-organisation within the Constabulary. Additionally, it has been evident that police resources are stretched at times of major investigations and it’s hoped that a dedicated press officer will be able to assist with media liaison in these specific areas, and generally across the Department as required.’

Daphne said:

‘This is an exciting new role and I’m very much looking forward to working with all the divisions to maximise positive coverage of the Department’s work. I see my first priority as gaining a greater understanding of the Department’s achievements and communicating that through development of a website and through the media.’

Daphne, 37, was Press and PR Manager at the Department of Tourism and Leisure from 1996 to 2005. Previously she worked as a journalist with Isle of Man Newspapers for seven years. She is married to Chris and has just returned to work after 11 months’ maternity leave. Their son Joshua will be one year old in November.

Daphne can be contacted at the Department of Home Affairs, Homefield, Woodbourne Road, Douglas. Direct line 01624 694322 and email daphne.caine@gov.im.
