Proposed New Medical Centre for Braddan 10 October 2006

The Department of Health & Social Security is pleased to announce that a planning application, in principle, has been submitted for a new medical centre, which will be located at Strang Corner Field alongside Nobles Hospital. The intention is to relocate Palatine Health Centre from its current premises in Murrays Road to new premises in Braddan.

Steve Rodan, MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security said,

“I am pleased to make this announcement following many years of searching for suitable sites in the town centre. The Department’s gratitude is extended to Braddan Parish Commissioners for making land available, and to the doctors at Palatine Health Centre for working alongside the Department.”

The number of patients and the daily business of the Palatine Health Centre have expanded to the extent that, in order to provide space for the services offered at the practice, and to ensure easy access and parking for patients and staff, the move is vital. The new surgery will be twice the size in floor area as the present facility.

Dr Frank Harding, senior partner at Palatine Health Centre stated,

“The practice would have preferred to relocate in the town centre, but suitable premises were not available that would meet the criteria for housing the surgery’s facilities and provide adequate parking.”

Martyn Quayle MHK, said,

“As Member of the House of Keys for Middle, I have been well aware of a pressing need for a GP/ Medical Centre to serve my Constituents as well as others, and have held constructive discussions with Hon Steve Rodan, MHK, Minister, Department of Health and Social Security, (and his predecessor Mrs Clare Christian MLC ), Director of Estates, Mr Mike Harrington and various Senior Officers as well as Braddan Parish Commissioners in order to provide a solution. I am therefore delighted to welcome and wholeheartedly support the proposals for a new Medical Centre in Braddan and extend my appreciation to all involved within DHSS and Braddan Parish Commissioners for their enthusiastic commitment to this new joint venture”

Braddan Parish Commissioners said,

“The Commissioners have, for some time, accepted that there was a need to provide an improved level of service to the residents of the Parish particularly, in relation to having a medical centre within the Parish. Following extremely positive discussions with the DHSS, the medical facility will provide a very valuable facility to the Parish.
