‘Manx Wildlife and Landscape Through The Lens’ - Children's Photographic Competition 10 November 2006

In celebration of the opening of the Wildlife Photographer of the year exhibition at the Manx Museum, Manx National Heritage is pleased to announce the launch of ‘Manx Wildlife Through the Lens’ - Children’s Photography Competition.

The competition is designed exclusively for children, in three separate age categories. The first category is for children 10 years old and under, the second category for children between and including the ages of 11 – 14 and the final category for applicants between and including the ages of 15 - 17.

Photographs must be of Manx Wildlife Scene, Animal or Landscape and winners from each age category will be presented with a digital camera, together with a Family 4 site admission ticket for the Island’s heritage attractions for use during summer 2007.

Winning and commended images will be displayed in an exhibition at the House of Manannan, between Wednesday 27th December 2006 and Friday 19th January 2007. All children submitting an entry will be entitled to free admission, accompanied by a paying adult, to the House of Manannan for the duration of the exhibition.

Anthea Young, Education Services Officer for Manx National Heritage, commented:

”The competition runs parallel with the opening of the 2005 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition at the Manx Museum in Douglas, where the photographs on display within the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition are truly inspirational, and we hope that the exhibition will enthuse and inspire children to look at the Manx environment more closely”.

Competition entry forms are available from the Manx Museum and House of Manannan and further details can be found on the Manx National Heritage website www.storyofmann.com. The competition will run from Monday 13th November 2006, with the last date for entry being Friday 15th December 2006.

Anyone wishing to gain inspiration from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition can visit the prestigious exhibition at the Manx Museum from Saturday 11th November 2006, where eighty-six stunning photographs from around the world are on display and brought together as a result of the 2005 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition organised by the BBC Wildlife Magazine and the Natural History Museum.

The Manx Museum is part of the award-winning Story of Mann and is open from Monday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm.
