Visitbritain fact finders trip to the Isle of Man 23 November 2006

Following the annual VisitBritain PR conference in London last week, four VisitBritain representatives chose to spend a weekend on the Isle of Man before they headed back to their respective countries.

Tourism authorities from each region in Britain were invited to submit an itinerary prior to the conference and the Isle of Man, having submitted a ‘film themed’ itinerary, proved the most popular choice for the overseas PR officers. As a result Katrina Sutton, Film Tourism and PR Manager, VisitBritain USA, Brigitte Ringelmann, Media Relations Executive, covering Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Sumathi Ramanathan, PR Manager for VisitBritain Malaysia and Maria-Eugenia Benito, Press and PR Executive for VisitBritain Spain all visited the Island last weekend.

Katrina Sutton said: ‘We are most impressed by what we have seen during our visit to the Isle of Man and hope to return for a longer period next time to discover the wide range of activities and attractions the Island has to offer.’

During their stay on the Island they visited the Sound Visitor Centre and Braddan Church, film sets for Keeping Mum starring Patrick Swayze, Cregneash village folk museum, film set for Waking Ned, Castletown, film location for ‘5 Children and It’ and ‘Island at War’, the House of Manannan heritage centre in Peel, the Villa Marina entertainment complex, the National Sports Centre and took a tram ride to Laxey.

The Department of Tourism and Leisure has hosted several press visits during this year including a Nordic and Belgium press trip, the popular Japanese magazine ‘Relax’, Karsten-Thilo Raab from Germany who is writing a hiking guide on the Island, Bretagne magazine, and Christelle Guibert, Ouest magazine, France who came over to cover the Isle of Woman festival. The Department will continue to facilitate international familiarisation visits next year as part of its strategy.
