New head teacher for primary school 5 December 2006

MANOR Park Primary School, Douglas, is to have a new head teacher.

Sue Mowle will take up her post at the school, which has 174 pupils, in January.

Mrs Mowle is currently deputy head teacher at Victoria Road Primary School in Castletown.

The appointment is her first headship. She said:

‘I am very excited to be taking up the position at Manor Park. I am aiming to build upon its many existing strengths to create a school that is an exciting, lively environment, where there is a sense of discovery and a joy in learning.

‘I am really looking forward to working with the parents and community to provide a school which is a real focus for the area.

‘I believe firmly in ensuring that children need to be happy in a school as a pre-requisite for learning. Happiness in this context will include feeling safe, secure and valued as a person. I also believe that teachers should be allowed to use their professional wisdom and creativity to provide unique learning opportunities.’

Mrs Mowle gained her teaching degree at the University of Birmingham. Her career began in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, where she taught in two diverse schools and gained good experience in special educational needs.

She moved to the Isle of Man in 1999 and worked as a supply teacher before taking up a teaching post at Foxdale School. After a year, she was appointed as SEN unit manager at Arbory School.

Mrs Mowle said:

‘Four years in this post, coupled with the work I did as a member of the senior management team at Arbory, stood me in good stead for the role of deputy head teacher, which I have enjoyed immensely. I will be sad to say goodbye to the children, parents and staff of Victoria Road School.’
Mrs Mowle lives in St Mark’s with her husband and three teenage sons, Ben, 18, Sam, 15 and Tom, 13, who all attend Castle Rushen High School.
