Ambulance Technician Barry Chambers retires after 23 years service 12 December 2006

Anne Craine MHK, along with work colleagues old and new, congregated to pay tribute to Ramsey based Ambulance Technician, Barry Chambers who had been employed by the Department of Health and Social Security for 23 years.

Barry begun his career as a member of the ground staff at Ramsey Cottage Hospital back in 1983, and after winning many awards for his gardening skills decided to turn his hand to caring for people as a member of the Island’s Ambulance Service. After a period of serving as a Patient Transport Services driver and attendant, Barry decided that he would like to be trained to crew an emergency frontline ambulance. He attended Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Ambulance Training College where he achieved the accolade of best student on the course award.

Anne Craine MHK, who presented Barry with the Ambulance Service valued staff shield, said,

“I express my sincere gratitude to Barry for his long and loyal service with the DHSS and wish him a long and happy retirement.”

Chief Ambulance Officer Steve Sieling added,

“It has been a pleasure working with Barry who is always full of enthusiasm. I am sure that with his good health, Barry will explore the new opportunities that come with the freedom of retirement.”
