Skipping Website – www.skipping.gov.im 12 December 2006

The Department of Health and Social Security’s Public Health Directorate (Health Promotion Team), supported by Isle of Man Anti Cancer Association and Skimmee Gien Mie (Team Well Being), have recently launched a dedicated website to enable children to record their skipping achievements.

The site has been “live” for the past two months, and in October and November has received over 500 visits on the homepage, and a total of 2029 views throughout the site since it began. Children have been able to check on their success and that of their friends and school.

Michelle Flanagan, Health Promotion Office said,

“Remember to log on to see how you and your school is doing on the leader board, and see if you can match or beat the high scores so you too can be part of the Manx Skipping Challenge. The leaders have changed several times already since the site has gone live!”

If there are any budding skippers out there, check out the categories on the website and then contact skipping@gov.im. Your achievements will be posted on the site as long as they are verified by an adult. The Manx Skipping Challenge has been introduced to schools to fight increasing levels of inactivity in Primary aged children, and has been supported by school visits from a skipping coach from the UK’s Skipping Workshops. These visits are to continue in 2007, which will include demonstrations from an International Skipping Team and advanced workshops.
