College students join forces 14 December 2006

STUDENTS from the Isle of Man College enjoyed presentations from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force recently. College students enjoy a visit from the RAF

Sixty students from the General Education and Health and Social Care groups attended the Navy’s presentation.

Lieutenant Rachel Gunnell and Commander Richard Buckland spoke of the role of the Navy today and explained that although its main role was to protect British shipping, it was also involved in humanitarian work in the wake of disasters. A lively question and answer session followed the hour-long presentation.

The same students enjoyed a presentation from Sergeant Paul Scanlon and Corporal Jacko Jackson, of the RAF, who spoke of the RAF’s role and the social and other skills needed to join up.

Students practiced their own social skills in a games session, with prizes, including RAF caps, handed out.

The presentations took place in the College’s Elmwood lecture theatre.
