David Cooke Retiring 22 December 2006

David CookeThe Minister of Health and Social Security has announced that David Cooke is to retire as Director of Social Services.

Following an earlier career in business, Mr. Cooke joined Newcastle Social Services in 1974, qualifying as a social worker in 1978.

Mr. Cooke joined the Department in 1980 as a senior social worker for mental health and child and adolescent psychiatry. He became Director of Social Services in 1991 and while he was Director, the Social Services Division developed, from small beginnings, an extensive range of services that the people of the Island benefit from today.

David Killip, DHSS Chief Executive said,

‘David Cooke’s dedication has been evident throughout his term as Director and it is with great regret that the Department announce his retirement on health grounds. We recognize and thank David sincerely for his considerable contribution to the work of the Department."
