The launch of 2007 TT stamps and coins is hailed a success 3 January 2007

The launch of the 2007 Centenary Collectables has been hailed a success by Isle of Man Post Office. Regent Street Post Office in Douglas opened its doors for one hour only at 10am on January 1, 2007 for the public to come and see first hand the fantastic range of merchandise available, some of which has been produced in conjunction with Duke and Lily Publications.

At 9am TT sidecar racing ace Dave Molyneux, on the back of Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw’s (MHK) bike, travelled around the TT course with 100 special first day covers. Their lap finished at Regent Street Post Office where a queue of people awaited their arrival eager to get their hands on the special first day covers and the rest of the centenary merchandise range. Stamp and TT fans alike were also offered the chance to have Dave Molyneux, TT legend Geoff Duke and Mick Duckworth, author of TT100, sign centenary collectables they were buying.

During the launch, which included Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw MHK, newly-appointed Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney MHK, Geoff Corkish MHK MBE, Alex Downie MLC and Paul Philips, TT and Motorsport Development Manager of the Department of Tourism and Leisure attending- Dot Tilbury, manager of Isle of Man Post Office’s Philatelic Bureau, proposed a toast to a successful and safe TT 2007.

Commenting after the launch Dot Tilbury said: “The launch exceeded my expectations, I thought it would be popular but certainly did not expect to see so many people queuing half an hour before the launch. It was a super morning and the ultimate start to the 2007 TT centenary year.”
