Isle of Man Police put robbery video online 3 January 2007

The graphic video footage of an off licence robbery can be viewed on the Isle of Man Constabulary pages of the Department of Home Affairs’ website at www.gov.im/dha/police/appeals.

It is the first time police have made CCTV video available to the Manx public to view online in a bid to bring the culprit to justice.

Force media liaison officer Inspector Richard Power said: ‘This is another weapon in our armoury to fight crime which has been made possible by the development of the website. I would urge people to check the website and view the 30 second clip of the robbery. Anyone with information which may help to identify the offender is asked to contact police on 631212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’

Home Affairs Minister Martyn Quayle welcomed the development, made possible with the support of Treasury’s Information Systems Division.

He commented: ‘My Department will embrace new technology whenever possible to achieve even better detection rates. The availability of our own website is an exciting development which we will use to drive home the message that criminal behaviour will not be tolerated on the Isle of Man, and we will support the police in providing the tools to help them fight crime by all possible means.’
