Works Division called into action to remove fallen trees 18 January 2007

Today’s high winds saw the Department of Transport’s Works Division called out to deal with fallen trees at various locations around the Island.

Trees have been removed at the following locations (and roads are open): Main Douglas to Peel road at Greeba; Glen Maye; Raggatt; Garey Road, Lezayre & Churchtown area; Silverdale Glen area; Minorca Hill, Laxey; The Nunnery area; Patrick Road; Port-e-Vullen; Nassau Road, near Regaby; Fairy Bridge; Port Soderick, Railway Bridge; West Baldwin and East Baldwin area; Ballure area, Ramsey; Ballanevan, Poortown; and Tromode Road.

The Works Division is also dealing with fallen trees in:

  • Bayrauyr Road, between St Mark’s and the Ballamodha, where Manx Electricity Authority cables are involved;
  • Anagh Coar traffic lights – road was closed but is now open again;
  • Tholt-y-Will area – road currently closed until 5.00pm;
  • Mount Murray back road, where they are dealing with two dangerous trees at the junction of the back road and the New Castletown Road.

Elsewhere, at the request of the Emergency Joint Control Room, George Lane and Arbory Street in Castletown, Victoria Square in Port Erin and the Whitestone roundabout area in Ballasalla have been closed because of fallen slates.

Members of the public are asked to call 672000 to report fallen trees or debris affecting a highway.
