Department responds to snow warning 8 February 2007

Six of the Department’s bulk gritters will be out before dawn to pre-salt the Island’s roads in response to the Met Office’s warning of snow for tomorrow (Thursday).

The Ellerslie and Glen Duff Works Depots will be open from 4.00am, with the gritters out from 4.30am. Additional crews are on standby, with another four snow plough/gritters ready to be called out at short notice.

Engineering Works Manager Geof Walmsley said:

‘The Department has further resources in reserve depending on the severity of the weather. Drivers are asked to drive with extreme caution and with consideration for others.’
