Discover Diving at the Manx Museum 16 February 2007

There will be an opportunity for those interested in the sea around the Isle of Man to discover more about what lies beneath it on Saturday 24th February 2007, when the Isle of Man Diving Conference 2007 will be held at the Manx Museum in Douglas.

The Isle of Man Diving Conference will provide an opportunity for divers past, present and future to hear talks about Manx maritime heritage and to share their views and experiences of diving in the waters surrounding the Isle of Man and further a field.

“The heritage that lies under the sea is something that not many people get to see for themselves, so the work done by divers in discovering and reporting what they see is really invaluable. The conference has an excellent mix of talks about both the cultural and natural heritage of the Irish Sea and as our role at Manx National Heritage is to advise on both of these aspects of the maritime environment, I am delighted that we can host this important maritime conference at the Manx Museum”.

Conference organiser Michelle Haywood went on to say:

“The Isle of Man has some amazing diving sites. Underwater life round the Island is truly spectacular and rates as some of the best in the British Isles. Added to which there are numerous shipwrecks, many of which are only just being identified. This conference is a must for anyone who dives around the Island”.

The Isle of Man Diving Conference 2007 will include an exciting programme of expert speakers including Trevor Norton, Adrian Corkill and Steve Cowley, who will all be on hand to explain just what lies beneath the waves, including an exciting exploration of the British Battleship HMS Repulse, one of the biggest and most exciting wrecks from World War II.

The conference will start at 1pm until 4.30pm in the Seminar Room at the Manx Museum and admission is free of charge.
