DHSS cancels plans to build EMI Unit in Douglas 8 March 2007

The Department of Health and Social Security today announced the cancellation of plans to build a 32-bed Elderly Mental Infirm (EMI) Unit at a site within Douglas.

Speaking about the cancellation, Eddie Teare MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security said,

“Whilst building a Central EMI Unit remains a key strategic requirement for the Department, to proceed with the EMI Unit at the present time will add a stressful burden to the Department’s well documented financial position.”

Mr Teare added,

“The Department is committed to providing the best quality service and care to anybody in need. However, it is vital to the long-term provision and development of all services that the Department operates within its allocated budget.”
