Local Authorities urged to make Island blooming wonderful 26 March 2007

The Island in Bloom competition 2007 has been launched by the Department of Tourism and Leisure.

All local authorities have been invited to participate in the competition which aims to improve the appearance of towns and villages. Those who enter are eligible to receive a £50 grant towards administration costs.

Last year’s overall winner of the competition Douglas, will represent the Isle of Man against UK finalists in the Britain in Bloom competition this summer.

Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘I hope many local authorities around the Isle of Man will support the Island in Bloom competition as enthusiastically as in previous years because it results in areas being well presented for everybody’s benefit.
‘This year we’re keeping our fingers crossed for Douglas which has reached the national finals for the second year running.’

Any local authority which has not received details of the competition can contact the Island in Bloom co-ordinator Marlene Kneen for information – telephone 686830.
