Ardbraccan House 29 March 2007

The Department of Health and Social Security today announced the opening of Ardbraccan House to accommodate three young people with learning difficulties.

Eddie Teare MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security said,

“The DHSS takes very seriously the need to look after the Island’s young people in a safe and stable environment that will allow them to develop and integrate more fully in local society.

"I am delighted that Ardbraccan House is now available to accommodate these young people. The families of the young people moving into Ardbraccan House are all fully aware of what is happening and they have all expressed their opinion that the property is suitable. We have revised our proposals from a pre-fostering centre to a learning disabilities centre following public representations and I feel that this is an appropriate use of the premises.”

Mr Teare added,

“I recognise and value the concerns raised by Mr Gawne MHK, Mr Gill MHK and Mr Watterson MHK, which have been considered in order to reach this point. Their contributions have played a vital role in ensuring that the young people have a good home and a bright future in Ardbraccan House.”
