Department welcomes new Member 8 May 2007

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Phil Gawne MHK, has welcomed a new political colleague on the team at the Department. David Quirk, MHK for Onchan is to join the Department to replace the position vacated by the move to the Department of Health and Social Security by Dudley Butt, MLC.

Mr Gawne said “I am sorry to see Dudley leave; he has worked closely with the Department covering all aspects of its work during his time with us. I wish him well in his new role in DHSS”.

Mr Butt said “I have really enjoyed my period as political Member for DAFF, having worked with many dedicated and enthusiastic people in my time there. I wish Mr Quirk all the best in his appointment to the Department”.

David Quirk will be given responsibility for Wildlife and Conservation issues. “This is an area which is greatly valued by the Manx people” says Phil Gawne. “This Division plays an important role in protecting the natural heritage of the Island”.

Mr Quirk said “I am delighted to join the Department and look forward to working with Mr Gawne and his team”.
