Department of Transport to temporarily close Peel inner harbour and swingbridge 15 May 2007

Peel Inner Harbour will be closed to vessel traffic during the overnight high water period on the 16th/17th May when The Department will be replacing the bottom seal on the Peel Flapgate. This activity will require the fitting of the ‘stop logs’ which are used to retain the normal water level in the inner harbour during low water periods in order to allow the Flapgate to be lowered for maintenance work. It will be necessary to leave them in place overnight during the high water period resulting in the Inner Harbour being closed to vessel traffic.

The Department will also need to temporarily close pedestrian access across the Inner Harbour Swingbridge to allow essential maintenance work to be undertaken to the bridge lighting. The closure will be effective from approximately 1pm on Wednesday 16 May to approximately 6pm on Thursday 17 May. These are normal processes, but nevertheless, the Department would like to apologise to harbour users and members of the public for any disruption caused due to these necessary maintenance works and will endeavour to keep the disruption to a minimum.
