Manx Whale & Dolphin Watch Online Diary is launched 18 May 2007

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is pleased to announce the launch of their Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch online diary on Friday 1 June.

Throughout the Summer, Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch is carrying out surveys to establish the range and numbers of whales, dolphins and porpoises which can be seen off the Island’s coastline. The forthcoming diary will update people by giving monthly reports but during July, the hot month for these cetacean sightings, video clips and weekly updates will be provided.

In anticipation of the extra visitors logging on to with a particular interest in sea life activities the homepage will be given a ‘Coast’ theme. It has been recognised that the Isle of Man has a lot to offer visitors with an interest in marine activities and Coast and has therefore been identified as an important key product by the Department. On the home page there will be links to activities and attractions on and around the Island’s coastline.

During June and July the survey team will take a local film crew directly to the areas where whales and dolphins are known to frequent in the hope of obtaining some excellent footage to support the results of the survey. The footage will then be made into four video clips for the online diary.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘The Department is delighted to share the Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch survey with visitors to our website. I hope these exciting video clips, and the online diary, will persuade people to visit the Isle of Man and come and see these amazing animals for themselves. This is a truly worthwhile project.’

Anyone wishing to keep abreast of this exciting venture can view the diary which can be found in the Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch section of the Department of Tourism and Leisure website
