Sky TV coverage for Isle of Man Youth Tour 21 May 2007

A one hour highlights programme of the recent Isle of Man Youth Tour has been put together by Greenlight Television, which will be shown on Sky Sports next week.

The Isle of Man Youth Tour, which forms part of the British cycling national youth circuit race series and national junior road race series, took place 4-6 May 2007. Over 280 competitors took to the start line for what is believed to be the biggest and best youth cycle competition in the British Isles. All of the Great Britain regional talent teams were represented, including teams from Holland & Bermuda.

In the junior event, the Island’s own World Champion Peter Kennaugh, riding for Team Isle of Man, won outright, winning two out of the four stages with stiff opposition from his Olympic development plan team mates Adam Blythe, Luke Rowe, Rhys Lloyd and Mark McNally as well as Dutch rider Jetse Bol.

The four stages of the Tour took place in Douglas, Peel, Marown and Port Erin.

Race organiser Oliver Last said:

‘The feedback we have had from some of the teams and competitors about the event has been amazing and it’s clear that the Isle of Man Youth Tour is the premier event on the calendar for youth & junior cyclists in the British Isles. The racing was some of the most competitive we have seen on the Island for some time and it’s no joke to suggest that some of the riders who competed here will be stepping onto World and Olympic podiums in the years to come. We are extremely grateful to the Isle of Man Department of Tourism & Leisure who have supported the event along with sponsors Sleepwell Hotels and Dickinson & Cruickshank.’

A total of 10 transmissions will go out on the Sky Sports channels between 24-28 May. The footage will also be shown on www.cycling.tv at a date to be confirmed.

‘I am thrilled that Sky TV is covering the Isle of Man Youth Tour and will receive multiple repeats on the channel. This will certainly highlight the Isle of Man’s enthusiasm for cycling and will be marvellous publicity for the Island.’

Greenlight Television will also be putting together a DVD priced at £10.00 which will be available from 10 June.
