Written Question 16

For Written Answer:The Hon Member for Douglas North (Mr Henderson) to ask the Minister for Health and Social Security

Are there referrals to the sleep clinic at Noble’s Hospital, which are being in turn referred to the UK as patients cannot be seen here, and if so, why is this happening?

Answer

Thank you for your question regarding referrals to the sleep clinic at Noble’s Hospital.

Yes there are referrals.

In the first instance patients who may be experiencing problems with their sleep are referred by their General Practitioner to Dr Jones, Respiratory Consultant.

Patients with sleep related problems are, on the whole, investigated and treated on the Island. However patients who have non respiratory related sleep problems are sent to the UK for assessment and treatment, as this facility is not provided on the Island.

Written Question 17

For Written Answer:The Hon Member for Douglas North (Mr Henderson) to ask the Minister for Health and Social Security

Is there a waiting list of referrals to the sleep clinic at Noble’s Hospital, if so, how long are people having to wait for a consultation in terms of the longest waiting time?

Answer

Thank you for your question regarding Waiting Lists for the sleep clinic at Noble’s Hospital.

The Respiratory Consultant, Dr Jones, must see all patients referred with Sleep Apnoea problems in the designated clinic, which occurs every two weeks. The next available appointment for this clinic is at this moment 19th July, (14.5 weeks away). Following this consultation, should the patients require initial assessment, this would be undertaken within one month.

As with all Outpatient clinics, appointments are sent out to the patients between 2 -3 weeks prior to the appointment, therefore patients booked for the forthcoming weeks have not as yet been notified.
