Isle of Man Post Office unveils electric post vehicle 12 July 2007

Isle of Man Post Office has taken its first step to greener motoring with the introduction of its first ever electric post van. The new addition to the postal fleet is an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional delivery van and was officially launched on Tuesday.

The Mega Multitruck II offers a range of benefits to the environment. It has zero exhaust emissions and runs completely on rechargeable batteries. The vehicle can also run for up to 60 miles before being recharged and costs approximately 2p a mile compared to 17p a mile for a diesel vehicle. It will also be cost effective to maintain.

The van will be used for the Isle of Man Government messenger service in Douglas and may also be trialled on a small rural delivery route in the near future.

Chairman of Isle of Man Post Office, Pamela M Crowe MLC, said:

“This is wonderful initiative by Isle of Man Post Office and is a positive step forward in helping the environment in which we live. “
