Isle of Man Constabulary appoints new Media Relations Officer 20 July 2007

ACTING Inspector Phil Shimmin has been appointed Media Relations Officer for the Isle of Man Constabulary, with immediate effect.

Acting Inspector Shimmin, 39, joined the Isle of Man Constabulary in 1986 and has served in a number of areas including uniform and CID. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2002 and since then has worked as a Section Sergeant in Douglas, a Custody Sergeant at Police Headquarters, in the Family Protection Unit and latterly within the proactive CID as Detective Sergeant.

He said:

‘I have dealt with the Island’s media on and off throughout my career and I am looking forward to taking on responsibility for media relations on behalf of Isle of Man Constabulary. In my previous role within the Proactive CID I was interviewed on a number of occasions, mostly in relation to operational matters, and I welcome this opportunity to assist the media in obtaining information on police matters where appropriate. Most of the day to day news releases will continue to be issued at local level by the Neighbourhood Policing Teams but I will be available as a central point for any clarification or more information required by the media,’ he added.

Alongside media relations, A/Insp Shimmin is responsible for custody issues and call handling at Police Headquarters and the Emergency Services Joint Control Room. He can be contacted on (01624) 631371 (direct line) with any media enquries.
