Affect of industrial action on Isle of Man customers 27 July 2007

Ahead of the start of two-week planned industrial action in Royal Mail by the Communication Workers Union (CWU), information to advise customers of the initial affects of the strike have been announced by Isle of Man Post Office.

The strike action starts tomorrow from 7pm and will affect various parts of Royal Mail’s operations until Wednesday 8th August 2007. It is a result of unsuccessful pay talks between Royal Mail and the CWU.

During the first few days of the industrial action, Isle of Man customers should see minimum disruption. Guarantee for Special Delivery on July 25, 2007 will be suspended as will the Special Delivery Saturday guarantee on July 27, 2007. We expect many Special Delivery items posted on 25th and 27th July to be delivered however they may be out of usual guarantee times. Customers who have urgent items to send on these days can use Parcelforce services including Parcelforce’s Saturday guarantee services.

Standard mail posted in the Isle of Man on Friday, bound for UK addresses, will not be delivered on Saturday but from Monday (July 30). However mail sent from the Island on Friday bound for international destinations will be despatched overseas as normal.

During the industrial action Parcelforce and bank pouch services will remain unaffected as will local to local mail.

Customers with any queries can contact our Customer Services Team on 664664. During the strike we expect to receive a high volume of calls and if all operators are busy customers will be diverted to a voicemail service. Customers are asked to leave a message with contact details and a member of the team will return their call as soon as possible.

Isle of Man Post Office will be liaising with Royal Mail on a daily basis and an update regarding the expected disruption for the following week will be made on Friday. The industrial action is expected to continue until Wednesday 8th August 2007.
