Update on affect of industrial action on Isle of Man customers 27 July 2007

As industrial action by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) in Royal Mail continues, an update regarding the impact on Isle of Man customers has been issued by Isle of Man Post Office.

We have been advised by Royal Mail that after the two days of industrial action with individual operational areas there is no backlog in the network. Although there will be no delivery to UK addresses tomorrow, we don’t expect any further impact on mail bound to and from the Island, the UK, Europe and international destinations over the weekend including Monday. However, guarantee for Special Delivery for both Monday and Tuesday will be suspended and although we expect many Special Delivery items to be delivered they may be out of their usual guarantee times. Customers who have urgent items to send on these two days can use Parcelforce services.

During the industrial action, which is a result of unsuccessful pay talks between the CWU and Royal Mail, Parcelforce and bank pouch services will remain unaffected as will local to local mail.

Customers with any queries can contact our Customer Services Team on 664664. During the strike we expect to receive a high volume of calls and if all operators are busy customers will be diverted to a voicemail service. Customers are asked to leave a message with contact details and a member of the team will return their call as soon as possible.

Isle of Man Post Office is continuing to liaise with Royal Mail on a daily basis and an update regarding the expected disruption for the rest of next week will be made on Tuesday. The industrial action is expected to run until Wednesday 8th August 2007.
