Mea Tariff Update 1 August 2007

The MEA has today released details for electricity charges that will apply from 1 September 2007 for both domestic and commercial customers.

As agreed in Tynwald in June 2005, an increase of 6.9% is now due to be applied to all unit charges which comprises of Inflation plus 2.5%. This will result in a monthly increase of approximately £2.25 per month for the average domestic consumer.

The Authority is committed to this increase as part of the Tynwald package which was put in place over 2 years ago. However savings made since that date mean that the MEA will be financially independent of Government support much earlier that anticipated and I thank everyone who has worked so hard to make such a positive result.

On a positive note, the MEA was pleased to advise consumers that the fuel cost adjustment will once again remain at Nil and there is to be no increase on the standing charge, monthly demand charge or agreed supply capacity charge. Furthermore, consumers who do generate their own electricity will see their rate running in tandem with the main Energy from Waste plant and the home generation standing charge rebate will remain in force until 1 April 2008, which is good news for those who do generate themselves.
