Financial Sanctions: Al-Qa'ida and Taliban 6 August 2007

This news release is issued in respect of financial measures taken against Al-Qa'ida and the Taliban. The Treasury advises that on 18 July 2007 and 27 July 2007 the United Nations Sanctions Committee approved amendments to fifty nine existing entries on the UN Consolidated List maintained under Resolution 1390 (2002).

Financial institutions and other persons are requested to check whether they maintain any accounts or otherwise hold any funds, other financial assets, economic benefits or economic resources for the named individuals and, if so, they should freeze the accounts or other funds or assets and immediately report their findings to the Sanctions Officer at Customs and Excise.

The amendments are detailed in the attached Annex.
